International Shipments via UCSD Shipping

You may ship your package using UCSD Shipping if your package:

  • Is being shipped via USPS, UPS, or Federal Express
  • Contains high value equipment

The University has systemwide agreements for customs brokerage & international freight forwarding services to clear export shipments through U.S. customs.

Shipping Procedures:

  1. Fill out a Shipping Memo.
    • You can obtain the form from Imprints, or in SDSC Room 210.
    • Step-by-step instructions for filling out the form can be found on UCSD Blink website.
    • Include the following information on the Shipping Memo under Description of Contents:
      1. Description of goods shipped
      2. Make, model, serial number, and UCID number of equipment shipped
      3. Value of item(s)
      4. Location of manufacturer (U.S., Japan, etc.)
      5. Purpose of shipment
      6. Country/countries being shipped to
      7. If shipment will be returned to the U.S., the approximate date of return
      8. Departure date and requested destination arrival date
      9. Type of service requested (e.g., air, ocean)

      Note: If your shipment consists of multiple packages, complete these additional steps:

    • Include the following anti-diversion statement on the Shipping Memo

      "These commodities, technology, or software were exported from the United States in accordance with the Export Administration Regulations. Diversion contrary to U.S. law is prohibited."

    • Retain the pink copy for your records.
  2. Obtain transit insurance.
    • UCSD Risk Management will insure your package through its transit insurance programs if you send your package via UCSD Shipping Services.
  3. Prepare your package for shipping.
    • Put your Shipping Memo in an envelope marked "Shipping" and tape it to the package.
    • Call Shipping at (858) 534-7467, ext. 1 to request a pickup. Be prepared to provide information such as Shipping Memo Request Number, approximate weight, etc.
    • Take your package to SDSC Operations Room A2. They will log your package and await pickup.
    • All requests for pick-up require 24 hours notice.
  4. The yellow copy of the Shipping Memo will be returned to you.
    • This copy will contain the carrier information and tracking numbers.
