Career Staff Recruitment Procedures

Please note that the procedures below are only general guidelines to follow. It does not include processes on visas and/or other special situations involved in recruiting. Contact HR for more information.


  1. Inform SDSC HR of the possible recruitment.
  2. Create a Job Description for the position. SDSC HR can provide you with sample job descriptions.
  3. Complete an Employment Requisition Form for funding approval. This form must be signed by the hiring supervisor and the Program Director of your area.
  4. Complete a Computer Related Supplement if the classification is for one of the below titles:
    • Programmer Analyst II
    • Programmer Analyst III
    • Programmer Analyst IV
  5. Select the top five skills and knowledge required for the position and send them to SDSC HR. These five top skills will be posted under the "Qualifications" section on the UCSD Job Bulletin and will be used as the screening and selection criteria.
  6. SDSC HR will submit the job description and request for the the position to be posted. The position will be posted for two weeks in the UCSD Job Bulletin.
  7. Referred resumes will be routed to the hiring supervisor for screening.
  8. The hiring supervisor will complete a Resume Screening Matrix to rate the candidates that are referred for the position.
  9. Select the top qualified candidates for interviews.
  10. Interview the candidates and complete the UCSD Selection Report. All candidates you interview must be included on the Selection Report.
  11. Return the Selection Report and Resume Screening Matrix to SDSC HR.
  12. Once we receive approval to hire, an offer letter will be sent out to the selected candidate.
